The educational system of Liechtenstein is divided into kindergarten, primary, secondary and higher education. The kindergarten is for children 5 to 7 years old and is optional or voluntary on the part of the parents. Primary education consists of five grades while the secondary education level has three tracks. With no universities or collegiate institutions locally, higher education is continued abroad especially in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
